Why you need a personal trainer...

I love having someone else program for me, and someone to celebrate my progress with!

Most people look at personal training as a luxury. It can be expensive, and you can easily just get an inexpensive gym membership, use a free consultation with a trainer and be on your way, right?

Sure, you can definitely do that, but what happens when you’ve been doing the same workout for months or years? If you have one routine that you follow, or you’ve only worked with 5 and 10 pound weights, chances are you are capable of WAY more, and will see drastic results if you lift heavy, correctly and consistently. Maybe it’s time to switch it up!

Have you ever had someone look out for YOU, and your specific goals, correct your form with feedback, give you the weights you should be using, provide nutritional guidance that is specific to you? It can be a game changer…

Do you know how to progress your workouts? After you have been lifting for a few months, have you increased weights, played around with tempo, rest periods and intensity? Your body will adapt to whatever stimulus you throw at it so if you’re not paying attention to what you did last week and the week before, and sending the right signals to your muscles, you are not maximizing your results.

Do you know that you should be sticking with the same routine for at least 3-6 weeks to see results? You follow your favorite fitness instagrammer and do what they do. There’s nothing wrong with finding new exercise routines but do you know how good their programming actually is? Have you done any research on this person? In order to reap the benefits of a strength building routine, you want to stick with the same routine for 3-4 weeks at least. Doing the same routine doesn’t mean doing the same workout, it means sticking with programmed exercises in a specific order to maximize your muscle building. You learn the moves, master them, increase weight and track it so you can actually see how strong you’ve become.

What do you do if you get injured? Do you know how to modify a move, or substitute something that isn’t working for you? Or have you always avoided an exercise because you can’t get it right, or it hurts? Chances are you CAN do it, with the right regressions and progressions!

What if you have a busy week and then all of a sudden it’s been 3 months since you’ve stepped foot in a gym? This happens to EVERYONE! I truly believe that life is a sine wave that oscillates up and down over a central point. Sometimes we are extra dedicated to health and fitness, other times we’re not at all, and sometimes it’s in between. Having someone who is checking in with you on a weekly basis, be it in person, or online, makes you accountable, it helps you adhere to a plan, and it benefits your progress.

“It’s expensive.” It can be, but even if you invest a small amount of time in a personal trainer or some good programming and online coaching, it will not be a waste of money. You’d learn something, kickstart some healthy habits, and your quality of life and health is definitely worth it. Who knows, maybe the value would be worth the money. I am a certified personal trainer, group fit instructor, and am working on a nutritional coach certification. I have a coach. She is expensive, but I have someone who looks out for me and keeps me on the ball. Totally worth it. I absolutely love working with my clients, both in person and via phone, text, and email. If you have any questions, or think you want to give it a try, contact me anytime!!
